Sticky Fingers Cooking Wins Naturally Boulder Days Pitch Slam

Congratulations to the winner of Naturally Boulder Days: Sticky Fingers Cooking!

If you read my PitchSlam Recap, you might be wondering how Sticky Fingers Cooking was able to win with judges comments such as “can’t quite envision the product” and “Loved the story, what is the product?” To put it plainly, Stick Fingers stood out.
Aside from The Wholesome Gourmet (and possibly Shaken, the documentary about Parkinson’s), every other pitch was for a product. How could the judges pick one local, organic, free trade, gluten-free, dairy-free, sugar-free product over another in just 60 seconds? They couldn’t, so they went with the pitch that clearly had the largest scope - one that focused on education.
Sticky Fingers Cooking currently focuses on cooking classes for 2-5 year olds. They also sell cooking kits for young children, and hope to appear in supermarkets with a semi-prepared meal easily finished at home. The judges comments questioning the actual product reflect that the pitch’s focus on cooking education came across as philosophy more than product. Hastily mentioning their idea for a supermarket isle product only led to further confusion.
However, the scope of the business and its educational ideals overcame any faltering during the pitch itself.  Recent articles featuring Sticky Fingers in The Daily Camera, Denver Westward and BusinessWeek raised awareness before the PitchSlam even began. Well timed PR ladies!

Wow! That’s awesome for this company. Always nice to see a small company get a boost like that especially when it involves something for children. My little boy is getting into cooking and for whatever reason…doing the dishes! I’ll bet that won’t last though. :)
