Why people overeat

According to studies mentioned in this article from the Boston Globe, suggest that people overeat when their brains don’t get as much pleasure from food. One example showed that not only did subjects report that wine with a higher price tag tasted better, they showed more brain activity as well. Of course the prices were switched around for different subjects, but whichever had the highest price tested best, regardless of the actual wine inside the bottle.

So if we take more time with our food choices, and spend a little extra money buying the good stuff, our brains will be happier, and our stomachs will be more satisfied. We’ll overeat less.

Although I guess you could achieve the same effect by starting a restaurant with crappy, overpriced food in a lovely atmosphere. Right?
