A curious thing happens to me while traveling abroad - I am constantly hungry! It is a frustrating situation - one I have been uable to fully understand. In fact, while abroad in Australia back in 1999 - I would make 2 sandwiches at each meal so that I could take them back to my room to tide me over until the next meal. Ridiculous, right?
A few theories about why this happens:
1) White bread - I don´t eat much (if any) at home, but while travling (especially if you buy from the grocery store and don´t have access to a kitchen) it is often all you will find. Here in Argentina pizza & empanadas seem to be the most easily found food. White bread fills you up temporarily, but has little nutritional value.
2) Different Food - Especially on my current trip, I´m not eating nearly as many vegetables as I normally would at home. Perhaps the different mix of foods isn´t providing me with the normal nutritional balance I am used to?
3) Snacking - While traveling, almost all your food comes from restaurants and street vendors. At home, my food comes from one place - my kitchen - which has little more than raw ingredients and leftovers that have already been appropriated for future meals. I cannot snack. On the road - food is everywhere and you often have to bring snacks with you as you will be traveling for hours, unsure of your next source of food.
So, which of this is it? All of them? Are there other factors? Please share your own experiences in the comments below.

We are sitting at DIA waiting for a significantly delayed flight, eating bad food. The most nutritional value is probably coming from the beer.
What about this…when you are traveling you are likely to be doing more walking, riding, moving around or whatever which increases your bodies need for food. Your senses are also more heightened because of increased stimuli which also increases your bodies need for food. Compound that with the reasons you mentioned above and Walah!
Hope you are having a good time Ryan! Happy Holidays!
