If you’ve never heard of the SAME Cafe in Denver, listen up.
There are no prices.
That’s right, no joke. It’s “pay what you can”. The Denver Westwood News has a looooong and detailed article about The SAME Cafe. It’s worth reading. The idea that this business model can work blows my mind a little bit.
This utterly fascinates me. A non-profit restaurant? Some customers pay nothing? Much of the work is on a volunteer basis (there is a long waitlist), which includes many who signed up to help cover the cost of their food.
The kicker is that they use primarily local and organic food (which, of course, is more expensive) - and they’re still in business after more than two years. Next time I am in Denver, I’ll be checking it out for sure (2023 E Colfax, Denver, CO). Also, they are holding a charity poker tournament on March 6th, anyone want to go?
