Bacon is the new black. Why give your sweetheart a box of chocolates or overpriced roses on Valentines Day when you could pick up a package of Chocolate Covered Bacon Strips at your local Whole Foods for a mere $3.98? Nothing says: “you’re not fat” like some sugar and pig meat presented on a platter for breakfast on February 14th.
I apologize for the blurry picture.
Pretty hilarious right? It’s clever, I’ll give them that. And though the pic is too blurry to see the list of ingredients (and I forgot to look), it was Whole Foods, so you can be assured they used real quality ingredients. Though as of 3pm on February 13th, they had plenty of these unique Valentine’s Day food gifts still sitting around.
It wasn’t till the 15th that I realized: these chocolate covered bacon strips are likely to be given to men. Funny how easy it is to forget that the Valentine’s Day gift giving can be a two way street.
What about my Valentine’s Day? The Reluctant Eater stayed home for a romantic home cooked meal of Spaghetti Squash and Tortilla Soup (both from Clean Eating Magazine) with my wife. And brother. Anyone else eat a special meal on February 14th this year?

All I’ve got to say is YUM! I might have to run over there and see if there’s any left!
Have you seen that new bacon spread out (http://baconnaise.com/) - who knows what’s in that!
Funny you should mention bacon and chocolate. Always looking for an interesting combination, I recently watched a “Throwdown” with Bobby Flay, where one of the preparations included chocolate flavored with bacon. Not one to pass on this combination, I picked up a chocolate bar from Whole Foods. M0’s bacon bar by Vosges. While not as in your face as chocolate covered bacon, it includes Applewood smoked bacon, Alderwood smoked salt and milk chocolate. It makes sense, the sweet and salty balance, but alas, for me it wasn’t spectacular…. Bacon covered in chocolate though…that’s just unnecessary…
