Are Conversations About Food and Health on the Rise?

An interesting thing happens when you start caring about what you eat. Suddenly, you find yourself involved in food and health conversations with all types of different people. People you didn’t even know cared about food.

More people have strong private feelings about their health and the state of the food industry than I would have ever imagined. And it’s not just the people who know that I care about food. Last night, I had dinner with a friend who I would have never guessed knew so much, or cared so passionately about living a healthier life. Why?

  • He lives in the city
  • He sits in front of a computer all day
  • He runs several businesses and works HARD

The conversation immediately turned to food.

He stopped eating meat recently (and dairy), so his only option (at this particular restaurant - Match in Boston) was a salad. Creating two imaginary piles, he began “you know, there is only “real food” and poison”.

We covered too many topics to discuss here, but a few of his claims I’d like to research and follow up on: diabetes is not caused by too much sugar but rather too much meat and dairy, reverse osmosis is the only way to go for drinking water (he claimed that the fluoride in tap water is bad for you), and the most interesting - when he changed his eating habits overnight, his facial hair immediately began growing faster.

Scary right?

Yes - absolutely, when you make it known how much you care about food and how it makes you feel and where it comes from, then you can spend hours chatting about it.

Interesting - my vote is that you tell us more about reverse osmosis for drinking water!
