The Issues of our Food System Hit the Silver Screen

Although it’s hard to tell just how widely this will be shown in theaters, Food, Inc. opens June 12th.

Another trailer, which includes a more uplifting spin can be found here.

Although I fear that Food, Inc. will only be shown in smaller independent theaters, the optimist in me wonders if there is a chance it will hit the megaplexes. Wouldn’t that start huge nationwide debates about our food system?

Aside from the shot of the businessmen walking through the field to their industrial complex (which is WAY over the top), the rest of the shots seem relatively unbiased. We all already know how Food, Inc. will be received: heralded by foodies and panned for it’s bias by ultra conservatives and the food industry.

More than anything, what stands out about the whole debate is the quote (from Michael Pollan’s voiceover in the trailer):

The way we eat has changed more in the last 50 years than in the previous 10,000

Regardless of whether or not you believe the industrialized food system is feeding us safe and healthy food, that statement ought to make you stop and think.

So interesting, gave me chills watching the trailer. You can hear about the nasty industrial food conglomerates over and over and still get sicked out every time. Thanks for the trailer and info about the new movie.

Do you know when/if this will be showing in the Denver/Boulder area? Thanks!
