The Week Ahead for The Reluctant Eater

June 9, 2009 · 2 comments

1) The deadline to leave a comment for a chance to win a copy of In Defense of Food signed by the author himself Michael Pollan has been pushed back to Thursday June 11th at 10am. All you have to do is leave a comment and you are eligible! (Update: winner announced)

2) Wednesday June 10th, the Bard Center for Entrepreneurship hosts their annual business plan competition in downtown Denver. A good friends mine The Organic Dish is one of the finalists (and 2 of the other 6 finalists are also food related) - wish them luck! Seats are correction: free (though it costs $60 for lunch and to see the winner announced), and if you aren’t able to make it, I will be reporting the results right here afterwards. (Update: results posted)

3) Also on Wednesday, I’ll be taking my first press tour of the grand opening SouthGlenn Whole Foods - which sounds like quite an experience (two cafes, in house bakery, and a wok station)! (Update: read about the experience)

4) One more item for Wednesday - it’s the first day for my CSA this summer. Each week I’ll get a surprise box of produce from Pachamama Organic Farm. I can’t wait! (Updated: I posted pics of my week 2 CSA bounty)

5) On Saturday, I’ll be at the Longmont Farmers Market as a special guest for Vendor Hippo’s video review of the market. I’ll be sure to post the video as soon as it has been posted. (Update: the video has been posted, check it out)

In the meantime, you can check out two public speaking gigs I’ve had recently, which have nothing to do with food (click through to this post if you don’t see the videos):

So, I have a question regarding Whole Foods Markets. I do shop there for some items just about each week, but I have reservations, as I think others do as well. It seems to me that a lot of their store’s flair and flashiness leads to waste. Does anyone agree? I’ve heard it suggested that there are some necessary evils taking place to help promote the lifestyle, but it seems to me that these newer stores are taking this to a whole new level. I don’t like the bigger is better movement that I have been seeing, but I assume it is all profit driven. I’ll be interested to hear your review of the new Whole Foods.
