No eggs? Try These Easy Food Substitutions

July 15, 2009 · 0 comments

The semi-depressingly named magazine, Living Without “The magazine for people with allergies and food sensitivities”, gives us this list of unique food substitutions.

Some of the highlights:

  • Milk: replace with 1 cup water & 1 egg yolk
  • Yogurt: replace with 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • Egg: 3 tbsp unsweetened applesauce & 1 tsp baking powder.

There are quite a few other suggestions, many of them even more bizarre. They also have an extensive substitution list for those looking for gluten free products. Take a look.

I haven’t tried any of these yet, so I can’t vouch for them, but I did once make powdered sugar by grinding up white sugar and cornstarch. Has anyone tried any of these before?
