Subscription Options
Why should you subscribe to The Reluctant Eater? Because the content comes to you! And…you’ve got two simple options:
Subscribe via Email
The gist: Each afternoon, between 1-3 Mountain Standard Time, you’ll receive an email from The Reluctant Eater containing any of the new posts I’ve written that day. Usually, I write one post each weekday (almost never on the weekends), so on average, you’ll get 5 emails each week with the new content. If I write two posts in a day, you’ll still get just one email, but it will contain both posts.
Advantages:
- Easiest way to get new posts without having to lift a finger
- Everyone knows how to use email!
- Your subscription is controlled by Feedburner, the most popular, and trusted partner for email subscriptions. If you want to stop receiving emails, just click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of an email, and that’s it. I’ll never be able to send you anything again! (unless you get lonely and come back)
Disadvantages:
- Possibly intrusive. You might not want another email in your inbox each day.
- Bad timing. If you receive the email but aren’t able to read it at that moment, you might forget…forever missing some bit of useful information that could have changed your life!
- You’ll occasionally miss videos and other media. Embedded videos and slideshows don’t appear in subscription emails, so you’ll have to click through and visit the site.

Subscribe via RSS
The Gist: RSS is essentially an inbox for blog posts and other web content. Why visit your 10 favorite sites each day (or even several times a day if you’re like me!) to look for new posts when you can have them delivered to you all in one place?
Google Reader is one of the most popular feed readers. It looks very similar to an email inbox, and you tell it which sites you’d like to see content from. Each time you look at your feed reader, you’ll see all the new content that has been published recently. From there you can read further, click through to the site, share the stories with friends, save content for later, etc. This is the only way to keep up with many different sites. Just for reference, I’m following 115 at the moment!
Advantages:
- Easy to follow many sites at once.
- Ultimate privacy. By following my RSS feed, you haven’t sent any information to The Reluctant Eater, so I won’t even know how to get in touch. If you ever want to unsubscribe, basically all you do is tell your feed reader to stop showing you content from this site. Easy!
- Any video or slideshows I post will be visible in your feed reader.
- No interruptions. Email is on all day, and it interrupts you. RSS feeds do not - you only look at your feed reader when you have the time and attention to devote to it.
Disadvantages:
- Even though I promise it’s super easy, most people don’t want to “learn” another “new thing”.
- If this is the only site you read (for which, I am honored!), you’ll have to remember to check your feed reader.
